OpenAI announced a wave of ChatGPT updates at DevDay, including an open plugin system, shared workspaces, automated workflows, Slack and Teams integrations, new pricing tiers, and an enterprise marketplace.

OpenAI is handing outside developers the same tools it has been using internally to build ChatGPT features. The company also added shared workspaces, automated workflows, and a marketplace for enterprise customers. Taken together, the announcements push ChatGPT well beyond its chatbot roots and put OpenAI on a collision course with at least Slack, Notion, and Google Workspace and ultimately even Microsoft Office or Windows.

The biggest developer-facing change is Plugin Extensions. They let developers build interactive panels inside ChatGPT where users can work alongside a conversation and create viewers for file types their plugins support. OpenAI says a new "Plugin Creator" makes building easier, helped by a revamped submission process with clearer feedback and improved ranking in the directory. Users choose which plugins to install and approve their access. All of this is available across every ChatGPT plan.

Supported plugins can also be embedded in user-created Sites, where team members use the same app with their own data and permissions. Through shareable profiles, users can showcase their Sites and plugins so others can find and reuse them. The move lines up with OpenAI's apparent ambition to turn ChatGPT into a creator platform. The company recently hired Patreon co-founder Sam Yam to lead a new creator product division.

Space, Pages, and Slides bring teamwork to ChatGPT

ChatGPT Space is a shared workspace for teams, ChatGPT, and its newly introduced AI assistant "Dot." Members can drop in files, chats, and projects, and ChatGPT keeps the Space organized based on how users tell it to sort things. Dot handles the busywork inside, pulling context from shared materials to answer questions, surface relevant threads, and hand off tasks to other agents. It's available for Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans on desktop and web, with a mobile version coming later.

Alongside Space, OpenAI is introducing "Pages," a document type built for collaboration between humans and AI agents. Users can write, research, generate diagrams, create images, or visualize data and invite team members to edit. If that sounds like it's competing with Google Docs and Notion, it probably is.

"Collaborative Slides" will roll out in the coming weeks, letting multiple team members and agents work on slide decks at the same time. They can start from a conversation or custom templates, leave comments, and export to PowerPoint or Google Slides.

OpenAI has tried the collaboration angle before. The company experimented with shared chats between multiple users and AI but shut that feature down in July, saying it wanted to keep ChatGPT simpler.

ChatGPT pushes into Slack, Microsoft Teams, and meetings

OpenAI is also going where teams already work. ChatGPT is now available directly in Slack and Microsoft Teams. Team members can reach the AI through an @ChatGPT mention in channels, threads, or direct messages without needing their own ChatGPT license. The AI uses admin-connected tools or the user's own tools with the right permissions.

A new Meetings Plugin takes things further. It automatically creates notes and summaries with action items in ChatGPT Space. Users can keep these private or share them, then ask ChatGPT to update a project plan or draft a follow-up. OpenAI says audio data is deleted after the summary is generated. The plugin launches in beta on macOS for Pro and Business users.

MCP Events and Team Tasks automate workflows

OpenAI is also integrating the proposed MCP Events Specification, which lets plugins trigger automations when something happens in a connected app. OpenAI gives this example: ChatGPT monitors a project board, reads linked documents when new tasks appear, and drafts a plan, even when the user isn't around. The feature is available on all plans.

Business and Enterprise users can form teams and delegate recurring tasks like weekly project updates to Team Tasks. ChatGPT then responds to events like new emails or Slack messages on its own.

Pro 500, a marketplace, and "Sign in with ChatGPT"

OpenAI is also reshuffling its pricing. The new Pro 500 plan offers the highest usage quota and includes access to "Ultrafast" in ChatGPT and Codex. The $200 subscription is back too, though with a smaller API budget than the earlier version. Over time, OpenAI wants to align flat-rate subscription pricing with API pricing so the same dollar amount buys the same quota. Both plans are available now.

With "Sign in with ChatGPT," Plus and Pro users can spend their quota at 16 partner services, including Cognition's Devin, Notion, Vercel, T3, OpenClaw, and Dactyl. Usage counts against plan limits, and the ChatGPT account doubles as a login for external tools. It's a play to make ChatGPT the identity layer for a broader AI ecosystem.

For Enterprise customers, OpenAI is launching the OpenAI Marketplace. Companies can redirect a portion of their existing OpenAI spend toward approved partner software. The marketplace launches with 32 partners, including Adobe, Figma, Salesforce, ServiceNow, Harvey, Legora, CrowdStrike, Palo Alto Networks, and the open-source model infrastructure platform Baseten.
